What Information We Collect

When you subscribe to a mailing list or interact with email communications, we may collect:

  • Your email address
  • Your name, if you choose to provide it
  • Your subscription preferences
  • Information about email engagement, including opens, clicks, unsubscribes and bounce events
  • Technical information supplied by our email service provider, such as IP address, browser type, device information and approximate location derived from technical data

We only ask for information that is needed to operate the mailing list and related communications.

How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

  • Send newsletters, articles, updates and related email communications
  • Manage subscriptions and unsubscribe requests
  • Provide commentary, analysis and information about media technology, broadcasting, streaming, cloud, AI, standards and related subjects
  • Notify subscribers about relevant events, webinars, speaking engagements, publications or services

Lawful Basis for Processing

Consent

Most mailing list communications are sent because you have chosen to subscribe. You may withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in our emails.

Legitimate Interests

We may process limited personal information where necessary for legitimate interests, including operating and improving the mailing list, understanding email performance, protecting against abuse, and maintaining appropriate records of subscriptions and unsubscribes.

Email Service Provider

We use Kit, formerly known as ConvertKit, to manage mailing list subscriptions and deliver email communications.

Kit processes subscriber information on our behalf as an email service provider. This may include storing subscriber details, managing forms, sending emails, recording unsubscribes, and providing analytics about email delivery and engagement.

International Transfers

Some service providers, including email service providers, may process personal information outside the United Kingdom.

Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards and contractual protections required by UK data protection law.

How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep subscriber information for as long as you remain subscribed to our mailing list.

If you unsubscribe, we may retain limited information to honour your unsubscribe request, maintain suppression records, prevent accidental re-subscription, and demonstrate compliance with legal requirements.

Email Tracking and Analytics

Emails may include tracking technologies that help us understand whether emails are opened and which links are clicked.

This information is used to assess the performance of mailing list communications and improve future content. You may be able to limit some email tracking by disabling remote images in your email client.

Your Rights

Under UK data protection law, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Ask us to delete your personal information
  • Ask us to restrict how we use your information
  • Object to certain types of processing
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • Request data portability where applicable

To exercise these rights, contact privacy@markham.me.uk.

Unsubscribing

Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can unsubscribe at any time using that link.

Once unsubscribed, you should no longer receive marketing emails from the relevant mailing list, although limited information may be retained to ensure your unsubscribe request is respected.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure.

No internet-based service can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we aim to use reputable service providers and sensible data protection practices.

Complaints

If you have concerns about how your personal information is handled, please contact us first at privacy@markham.me.uk.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will be published on this website.
